Community Montessori School

As you may have heard, Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc on Community Montessori School. Walking through the school grounds, it’s heartbreaking to witness the overwhelming damage caused by the storm surge. All of the buildings at the Civic Road Campus and two of the buildings at the Webb Campus were flooded and were submerged in water, some as deep as three feet, destroying classroom materials, computers, musical instruments, furniture, kitchens, appliances and essential equipment.

The damage doesn’t end there. Floors and walls have been compromised, requiring full flood remediation to restore a safe learning environment for our children. As a community-driven school, we are turning to our extended family for support in this time of crisis.

We at Community Montessori School urgently need your help to recover and rebuild. Your generous donation will go directly toward replacing lost materials, repairing facilities, and ensuring that our students and teachers can return to the vibrant, engaging classrooms they once had.

Well this is your lucky day! You have stumbled upon a great opportunity to help make a better and brighter future.

We are the students of Community Montessori School’s Adolescent Program. This program allows us to work together as a team and to accomplish tasks and to be the best versions of ourselves.

This year our 8th and 9th graders have an amazing opportunity to attend the annual Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN).

What is Montessori Model United Nations?

MMUN is an opportunity for Montessori students from around the world to meet and collaborate on ideas to make the world a better place. Each student represents a country committee with a few other students and speaks on its behalf about ongoing problems that the actual United Nation (UN) discusses.

What is Community Montessori School?

CMS aims to establish an environment where everyone feels welcome and safe, while also providing the tools we need to succeed in life.

What is the CMS Adolescent Program?

The Adolescent Program is specifically designed to address humanity’s relationship with the natural world, in accordance with Maria Montessori’s principles.

Within the Montessori approach, CMS cultivates a secure and nurturing space where students can develop into conscientious and educated individuals. The goal is to prepare them for seamless integration into society.

A donation with a porpoise - The Upper Elementary students of Community Montessori of Tampa are getting ready for their four-day trip to Seacamp. This life-changing experience will help them create awareness of the complex and fragile marine world and to foster critical thinking and informed decision-making about man’s use of natural resources. Your donation means the world to these kids and will also help educate more conscious human beings.

This is a little of the history....

ABOUT NHMI

Seacamp Association, Inc. emerged in 1966 from the cooperative efforts of parents, scientists, business professionals, camp leaders, and others dedicated to marine science, to the education of youth, and/or to the values of camping programs and experiences. A 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, this organization operates under the guidance of a Board of Directors.

The organization has operated a summer residential marine science camp program, Seacamp, since 1966. Over 10,000 teenagers - hailing from all 50 states and many other countries - have attended one of Seacamp's 18-day programs. Although their backgrounds vary, these campers have all shared at least one critical common interest: the importance of oceans and marine life to their world.

The Newfound Harbor Marine Institute (NHMI) program was started in 1970 for the purpose of complementing Seacamp Association's mission to provide experiential marine science education opportunities. The NHMI program extends these opportunities into the school year, from early September through late May, for students from 4th grade through the college level, as well as teachers. Approximately 120,000 participants have enjoyed the workshops and residential programs at the NHMI field studies since its inception.

OUR PROGRAMS

A staff of resident marine biologists and environmental educators offer a wide variety of programs to meet the needs of participants, whether they are 4th graders on their own for the first time, middle school students exploring a new world, college students enrolled in a course, or teachers upgrading their skills and knowledge.

Throughout the history of NHMI programs, objectives have included offering each participant opportunities to develop knowledge and respect for our natural world; a sense of the beauty and inherent value of ocean environs; and positive attitudes about themselves and the world around them. Since 1966, more than 120,000 youth and adults have been enriched through sharing these field-oriented opportunities.

A typical 3-day/2-night class experience at NHMI consists of four daytime programs and two evening programs, during which students snorkel, wade, and study with their instructors, in teaching groups of 10-12 students. The daytime programs include:
