Here's a bit more about Cookies4Cures!
Hi, I'm Dana! I'm 14 years old and I'm the founder of Cookies4Cures, a nonprofit that raises money to fund research into rare pediatric diseases.
I started baking on my 7th birthday to raise money for my friend, Mila, who has a rare disease called Batten. My first goal was $1000. Every weekend, I sold cookies around my neighborhood out of my red wagon. I taped a sign to it that said, “Cookies4Mila.” It took three months but I did it! Instead of stopping, I started a GoFundMe, recruited more kids, and held a bunch of bake sales (which I call "cookie pop-ups"). By the end of the year, my friends and I had raised $56,000, money that helped fund the first ever treatment for Mila’s form of Batten.
After Mila started her therapy, my mom asked me, “Are you done?” I had just found out that my friend Ollie had been diagnosed with a rare condition called PANS (pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome). I decided to keep baking and my friends joined me. We started Cookies4PANS, and we raised over $30,000 to help the Stanford PANS Clinic hire a new postdoc researcher.
While working on Cookies4PANS, I knew that I wanted to keep fundraising and advocating for rare pediatric diseases so I started my nonprofit, which I called Cookies4Cures. My dream is to someday have a Cookies4Cures campaign for every rare pediatric disease.
Money raised on this GoFundMe page will be distributed to scientists working on these rare diseases:
- Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases -- Cookies4EGID
Multicentric Carpotarsal Osteolysis (MCTO) -- Cookies4Sophie
- Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) -- Cookies4SMA
- Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) -- Cookies4HAE
- Batten -- Cookies4Mila
- Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (VEDS) -- Cookies4VEDS
- Kawasaki Disease -- Cookies4Kawasaki
Thanks for being a part of our journey to fund research into rare pediatric diseases!
We fund hope, one cookie at a time!
