Hi there,

As many of you know, nobody loved spending time at the zoo more than Missy. Her family and friends would like to honor Missy by creating a fundraiser in her name. These funds will be used to first purchase a permanent marker of some kind (brick, paver, bench, etc.) to be located within the zoo in dedication to Missy and her love animals. This will serve as a permanent memorial spot for her family and friends to visit while visiting the zoo. Ideally, this is somewhere close to the hippo enclosure because the new baby hippo had Missy very excited to see over the last few weeks. Missy knew just about every animal's name, it's status, and was the resource that we all would call if we need an animal update. Missy kept a close watch on the recent escape and was relieved when the animal was captured unharmed.

After the purchase, any remaining funds will be donated to the Dallas Zoological Society in Missy's name.

Missy, your family, friends, and your animal friends at the zoo, all love you and already miss you terribly.

Please join the Dallas Parks & Recreation team along with the Dallas Zoo to help these vulnerable animals of war in the Ukraine. We are working with Martin Zordan, CEO of the WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquatics), to help coordinate the collection of relief funds for our associates in the Ukrainian Zoos. These funds will help provide food for the animals, veterinary care, and support to the teams caring for the animals, along with transport and evacuation services whenever possible.

Dallas Zoological Society has already made the first step by donating $10,000 toward the effort via EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquatics). Zoo life is a daily process and while staff has stayed behind to care for these beautiful animals, they are struggling to keep them safe and alive. They need our help.
