Serving Hope, One Meal at a Time
Because No One in Denton Should Go Hungry
Imagine not knowing if you’ll have enough food to feed your family this week. Standing in your kitchen, opening the fridge, and realizing there’s nothing there. It’s a fear that too many of our neighbors in the Denton community live with every single day.
This isn’t just a global issue, it’s happening right here. Families juggling multiple jobs and still not making ends meet. Children going to school hungry. Seniors choosing between groceries and medication. Single parents skipping meals so their kids can eat.
Food insecurity can affect anyone, and its impact runs deep. It touches health, dignity, emotional well-being, and the sense of stability that every person deserves. That’s why we’re coming together to support those who need a hand and to remind them they are not alone.
Since 1974, the Denton Community Food Center has served as a place of hope, compassion, and nourishment. Located in the heart of the city off Loop 288, this 100% volunteer-run, donor-supported organization provides fresh groceries to residents in Denton and Northern Denton County. Every person who walks through their doors is met with respect and dignity and leaves with enough food to help feed their household for an entire week.
Why This Matters Now
Food insecurity is a growing crisis that is affecting more families than ever before. In 2023, an estimated 47.4 million people in the United States lived in food-insecure households, including 7.2 million children (USDA ERS, 2024). These aren’t just statistics they represent real people facing impossible choices every day. Choices like whether to pay rent or buy groceries, whether to skip a meal so their children can eat, or how to stretch a few dollars to last through the week.
Right here in our own backyard, the reality is just as urgent. According to Serve Denton (2023), 21% of Denton County residents are food insecure. That means one in five people in our community lacks consistent access to enough food to live an active, healthy life.
This is why organizations like the Denton Community Food Center are so important. They step in during these moments of need, offering more than just groceries. They offer relief, dignity, and hope.

This campaign is our chance to stand with them, and with the families, seniors, students, and workers who are just trying to make it through the month with food on the table.
How Your Donation Helps
Every dollar donated will help Denton CFC continue providing food to local families in need. While we can’t promise where every cent will go we do know this: your donation will directly support a trusted local organization with over 50 years of service, compassion, and impact in Denton. The Denton Community Food Center has stood by this community through economic hardships, natural disasters, and everyday challenges and your generosity helps keep that work going.

Here’s how your support makes an impact:
- $1 provides 5 nutritious meals
- $10 helps feed a child for an entire week
- $25 covers groceries for a struggling family
- $50 helps restock pantry shelves with essential food and supplies
Want to Do Even More? Volunteer
In addition to fundraising, we’re also helping spread the word about volunteer opportunities. The Denton Community Food Center is fully run by volunteers, and they’re actively looking for more help.

Most volunteers serve on Monday and Wednesday mornings, starting at 9:30 AM. There are roles for everyone, from light duties like assembling bags or helping clients, to more active tasks like pushing carts or stocking shelves. They also welcome administrative and seated volunteers with skills in areas like data entry, Excel, QuickBooks, or food handling.

This Is Personal to Us
As students in a service-learning course called Pathways to Civic Engagement, we’ve spent the past several weeks learning not just about food insecurity, but about what it truly means to show up for your community. This experience has pushed us beyond the classroom assignments and into the heart of Denton. We’ve worked alongside the volunteers at the Denton Community Food Center, listened to stories, and witnessed firsthand the impact this is having on the community.
We’ve met people who never imagined needing a food pantry. Families navigating job loss, unexpected medical bills, or the rising cost of living. We’ve seen parents balancing strength and vulnerability as they seek support for their children. And we’ve seen the relief in their eyes when they realize they’re not alone, that there’s a place in their community that will greet them with dignity and help them through the hardest days.
This campaign isn’t just about raising money, it’s about civic responsibility and the community connection. When we engage as students, neighbors, and as citizens, we realize we all have a role in building a community where everyone belongs and everyone is fed.
We hope you’ll join us
If you’re able, please donate. If you can’t, please share. Every act of support, big or small, matters.
