Diabetes Training Camp Foundation

It is with heavy heavy hearts that we, the Appoquinimink Schools family, say goodbye to Zachary Scott Jones. Zachary passed away on Sept. 15th.  Led by Mimi Corcoran, we have organized this fundraiser to honor Zachary and his family.

 

We are asking friends and family to help us raise money for Diabetes Training Camp Foundation. Diabetes Training Camp Foundation is a non-profit that is dedicated to empowering the community of people living with type one diabetes to THRIVE, through education, activity and community. Dollars raised will go directly to offering scholarships to teens and young adults living with type one diabetes so that they can learn to manage their disease and live their best life.

 

Zachary grew up in Middletown, DE and graduated from Appoquinimink High School. He earned a BS honors degree in biochemistry at the University of Delaware before enrolling at Vanderbilt University to pursue an MD with a PhD in molecular pathology and immunology with the goal of becoming a pediatric physician scientist in pediatric hematology/oncology, endocrinology or rheumatology. He found great joy in pursuing research and hoped he would make discoveries that would truly change lives. He interned during his time at UD at Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, A. I. Dupont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Pediatric Oncology.

Zach was also an athlete, participating in karate, baseball, track, tennis and ballroom dancing. He was a kind, compassionate and generous soul who will be greatly missed by all who have known and loved him.
