Dog Story Theater Renovations
For over 15 years Dog Story Theater has supported professional quality live entertainment in Grand Rapids by providing access to an affordable performance space. The Dog Story model has been a driving force in helping artists create innovative art in our community while building their businesses and honing their crafts.
Unfortunately in 2020, due to the pandemic, Dog Story Theater had to close its doors. Since then, the DST Board of Directors has been continuously looking for a new space to move into that would fit our needs as a theater and our budget as a nonprofit.
In May of 2023, Dog Story's Board of Directors finally found the perfect spot. But for us to reopen, we'll need some help from our community.
Dog Story Theater is an important part of our arts community. It gives local writers, artists and theater companies a chance to be seen and thrive. It's a safe home for all creatives where you can come in as a new artist and make your mark. It brings a diverse selection of art to our City.
Our outstanding projects include reinforcing the floor with new footings and support columns every 3' 6" and adding a rear exit with a ramp.
The projected cost for floor reinforcement is $7000. The rear exit was estimated at about $70,000 (The cost of the ramp alone was estimated at $60,000). The rear exit will be installed in one of our window bays and had been approved by the historical commission. It will take some masonry work. We are looking at other options in regards to the ramp.
