East Bay Cyclones

Hello, my name is Derrick Bedford. I am a senior at Saint Mary’s College High School in Berkeley and committed to play Division 1 baseball at Fresno State University. For my senior project, I am collaborating with the East Bay Cyclones to collect baseball gear to ship down to Colombia for the youth baseball players of the country. This project will be done in collaboration with Fundacion Hit, based in Cartagena, Colombia.

My school is hosting a trip for students to go to Cartagena, Colombia this March. As part of that trip, my classmates have agreed to be part of my project by agreeing to take a bag full of baseball gear to Colombia. As part of that trip they will also perform some community service in the barrios of Cartagena.

This go fund me is asking you to make a tax deductible donation to cover the cost of shipping the bags full of baseball gear to deliver them to Colombia and for the supplies my classmates will need to perform community service during their trip with Fundacion Hit.

The East Bay Hurricanes  are back! Once again we are on the Road to Rockford, Illinois, for the annual national all-girls baseball tournament hosted by Baseball For All, July 31 - August 4, 2019. 

The Hurricanes is an all-girls travel baseball team affiliated with the East Bay Cyclones. They come from all over the Bay Area, from Oakland, Alameda, Berkeley, Albany, Richmond, Vallejo, and Sacramento. They are a sisterhood of hardballers committed to being part of a larger movement of inclusion and empowerment fostered by BFA and MLB. 

Rockford is a one of a kind experience for girls to come together and compete in the sport they love. Last summer, with the generous help from our many donors, we made it and competed well, winning a hard-fought 2nd place in our 11U division against teams across the US and Canada. 

This year almost the entire roster is back, plus several new members, excited are ready for more. And they are laser-focused on bringing the 11U BFA National title back.

Will you help?

The Hurricanes are going as a team and fundraising as a team. No one gets left behind. But it costs a lot to get there. A few of our teammates won't be able to go without financial support. This is where you come in. We need help to fund travel equipment, field rental, registration fees, travel expenses and uniforms. Getting our whole team and coaches and chaperones to and from Rockford, housing them, and feeding them is our biggest expense and how we will use the bulk of our fundraising money. 

All donations go directly into the East Bay Cyclones account, 501(c)3, FEIN # 46-1483448, the baseball organization within which our Hurricanes play. The Hurricanes coaches and general manager apply all funds directly to Hurricanes needs and expenses.

In the words of Baseball For All founder, Justine Siegal, PhD, "Too many girls are still told they can’t play baseball because they are girls. I founded Baseball For All to empower girls to believe in themselves and to keep playing the game they love. I fear if you tell a girl she can’t play baseball what else will she think she can’t do? I then worry what else boys will think girls can’t do?"
