East Palestine Community Foundation

East Palestine is a small Village in Eastern Ohio, which has been devastated by the Norfolk Southern Train Derailment and subsequent controlled explosions. These incidents have left our town economically and environmentally damaged. While we have faith that our community will pull through during this very tough time, we are also practical, and realize that economic survival hinges on our ability to reinvent ourselves. Our community has a lot to offer and we plan to prove that we can once again thrive in our region, state, and country.

So, what is our plan? We are hoping that through this GoFundMe Campaign to raise substantial funding for our community, to be distributed through grants and direct funding to community organizations and public entities (examples include: Social Concerns, The Way Station, East Palestine Police/Fire/EMS, and the East Palestine School District). We aim to focus not only on initial and immediate response efforts, but also aim to focus on the long-term revival of our town.

Through the East Palestine Community Foundations' leadership and formal status as a non-profit entity, we plan to drive improvements, purposely, towards a 5, 10, and 25-year plan. Potential steps include evaluating the place of an economic consultancy group to analyze East Palestine’s key opportunities for development, as well as the creation of a comprehensive community marketing plan. Further, we hope to support local positions that may focus on continued economic revival, influence local incentive structures, and promote an accessible, healthy, and energized business and family community. Though our target remains ambitious, we believe that achieving this goal is possible, and will allow us to create generational change.
