Eccles UMC Preservation Project
You can make a difference by donating today to Eccles United Methodist Church Preservation Project. We're a small church nestled in the heart of the Francis Marion Forest, a national forest near Charleston, SC. Locals say that you can find our church where the pavement ends and heaven begins, and everyone experiences this upon crossing the threshold; the simplicity of this little church is its charm and beauty.
Eccles Old, circa 1882, sits in front of our current house of worship and needs structural repairs to bring it to safety standards. We've been working with a local preservation contracting company and with the American College of Building Arts to formulate a remediation plan and to determine the funds needed for preservation. Three critical structural repairs are necessary to make the building habitable. In this campaign, we're attempting to raise funds for the timber framing repairs and for the windows; we've managed to secure funding for the roof this past year.
Eccles Old remains a source of dear memories for many of the older congregation members. They talk of Sunday school lessons on rustic longleaf pine floors and of Mother's Day gatherings around banquet tables full of scrumptious country cuisine for families and friends. They share about candlelit holiday services against the dark forest canopy and of vacation Bible school on serene, summer mornings. We dream to create more of these special memories with the next generation and of making Eccles Old a vibrant asset in the community. See more images here: Eccles Church Photos
Please help us restore and preserve this little woodland gem, and, if you can't donate at this time, please share our mission with others.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
