El Camino Real de los Tejas NHT - OCMP Project
El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association (ElCaT) has initiated a Community Activated Parks Project (CAPP) with the City of Austin – Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) to conduct historic and archaeological research at Onion Creek Metropolitan Park. The effort is focused along a study route of El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail and it is expected to lead to new understanding about the paths of the Camino in southern Travis County and future park developments connecting the park to the National Historic Trail.
As a non-profit 501 ©(3) organization, ElCaT’s mission is to protect the historic integrity of the trail, to educate and engage the public about its significance, and to promote resource development, interpretation, and tourism along its path.
ElCaT is a champion for the trail and achieves its work through the strength of its volunteers, partners, and staff. As such, the Association will be partnering with professional archaeologists and researchers from GTI Environmental, LLC to conduct this effort.
We encourage you to support us by becoming a project sponsor! The Corgan Family Foundation has generously donated $25,000 towards the $85,000 cost of the project and your contribution can help towards the development of Onion Creek Metropolitan Park and its connection to your National Historic Trail!
