In lieu of our Annual Celebration, ECM is committing to raise $100,000 for the Black and Indigenous Resistance Fund.  

Black and Indigenous communities have historically been denied access to wealth. The work of Black and Indigenous resistance is far from over. 

We must respond.

Last year, ECM showed up for racial justice by moving $500,000 for Black led resistance. This year, ECM has partnered with movement leaders, the Hyams Foundation, and the Haymarket People’s Fund to create the Black and Indigenous Resistance Fund. 

This fund will move us towards racial justice in areas of housing, health care, ending police brutality, among others.

The fund is led by Black and Indigenous leaders. We celebrate how this fund is breaking ground by centering a democratic and collaborative approach to philanthropy. 

Now is the moment to commit to the long-term struggle for the liberation of Black and Indigenous communities.

In these uncertain times, we’re sending love and care to all, including those in immigration prison who face conditions that make them especially vulnerable to COVID-19.

We’re hearing from folks who are detained that they’re aware of the virus and are organizing inside to try to support each other through it, but they’re not able to limit exposure to other people, including those who are ill, or to access hand sanitizer and may not even have soap.
We know that being released from ICE detention is the best protection against COVID-19 for our community members in immigration prison -- and you can help us make this possible for more people by donating today!

About the Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network (BIJAN, pronounced “Beyond”): 

We are a network of faith communities, individuals and other activist groups working to reduce the escalating harm of our immigration system in the current political context. 

We are all volunteers and we work closely with immigrant communities and immigrant-led organizations to support those impacted by our racist immigration system.

We provide accompaniment, which can include support in court or at ICE check-ins, legal referrals, fundraising for bond or legal fees, letters of support from the community, rides for families to visit loved ones in detention, and logistical assistance with paperwork or bond payments. We also help with housing, transportation, and other immediate needs of people released on bond who have no other resources in the community.

As an accompaniment network, we take action only in response to requests from those in need of support, or their representatives (family, attorneys, etc.) We don’t make promises, but we are good at trying very hard. These are our values in this work: 

* We honor people's dignity and choices in a system that denies dignity and choice.
* We expect messiness, confusion, and discomfort, and we also choose courage and trust.
* We judge the system, not people.
* We fight for one another as family, because we are.

Our immigrant neighbors in Greater Boston live in fear--arrested and imprisoned by ICE and separated from their families.  Asylum seekers at the southern border are routinely sent to immigration prison in Boston where they have no one to assist them.

Temple Sinai is working with two community efforts to support our neighbors in the fight for immigrant fairness and justice!

We are raising funds for the Beyond Bond Fund which is working to bond out our neighbors and asylum seekers so that no one will remain in immigration detention in Boston due to lack of funds.

We are raising money for the Newton Sanctuary Collaborative, an interfaith group supporting families at risk of deportation.
