Believe in Bike Parks
In 2019 Family FreeRide started in an effort to get kids on their bikes more often. Weekly group rides were organized and it was quickly discovered that using a bike park would be very helpful to contain the kids while letting them have fun.
The local Fair Oaks Bike Park was adopted and revitalized. In April 2020, after a year of proposals and grant applications, The Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District Board of Directors approved $30,000 of Measure J funds to add a dirt pump track to the existing Fair Oaks Bike Park. It was built in June and opened to the public on July 6th, 2020.
In May 2021, Family FreeRide presented an expansion plan for the Fair Oaks Bike Park to the Park District Board of Directors which includes a perimeter Cross Country Bike Trail, a large Asphalt Pump Track, a Jump area, and a Pavilion, totaling $1.5 million. The Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District has $26 million from the Measure J Bond that was passed by voters to improve the district's parks. In order for the Park District to allocate funding for a bike park expansion, they need to know that there is a user group that supports, and would benefit from, the expansion.
This Fundraiser will support Family FreeRide and their efforts to expand the Fair Oaks Bike Park. Also, Measure J funds can not be used for maintenance, so this fundraiser will also help support maintenance of the existing bike park and adding any new features or improvements to it.
