Family Service Association of Bucks County

BHHS Fox and Roach Realtors of Yardley and Newtown has joined The Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter located in Langhorne PA. We learned that this program managed by Family Services, is just an amazing organization working so diligently and eloquently each day to help families who have a temporary need for housing. 

They provide emergency shelter, food, clothing, job searches, budget planning and more for these families.

Although this shelter is always accepting various donations, we learned there is an immediate need for a commercial sized dishwasher, to allow the friends living there to live with dignity and actually us real dinner ware, utensils, glasses etc! (currently it is all paper products)

How do the homeless stay at home during COVID-19?

The news about COVID-19/Coronavirus is increasingly worrisome, and the shelter-in-place directives across Pennsylvania are creating a lot of stress and anxiety as families are being told to stay in their homes.

But what if they don’t have a home to stay in?

Unfortunately, this is the reality for many Bucks County families. During an already frightening time, they are faced with unfathomable levels of uncertainty. If you put yourself in their place, can you imagine how you would feel if you had nowhere to go, nowhere to shelter-in-place? How about your kids? Your elderly parents?

This is where the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter comes in. Throughout all of this, they are still open, still providing shelter for the homeless and they continue to feed the hungry, all the while being quite aware of the need for social isolation and distancing. With fewer volunteers, they are doing the best they can to get through this time, and taking all reasonable steps to keep the Coronavirus out of the building.

Despite that, the virus is already taking its toll on our nation’s homeless population. On March 24th of this year, New York City confirmed its first homeless death from the Coronavirus, and many more are expected.  

“Unfortunately, we are well aware of the sad fact that our homeless population is 30 percent more susceptible to the COVID-19 virus than those who are healthy because of their compromised respiratory systems,” said Ivan Klassen, director of community partnerships of the Los Angeles Mission, which provides emergency services, housing, legal counseling and other services to the homeless. During a time when we all feel especially vulnerable, the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter is doing everything they can to protect the most vulnerable above us. But the truth is, they need help with supplies to keep the residents safe and healthy. And that’s where you come in.

Who Will Benefit?
Bucks Community Emergency Homeless Shelter is a temporary residence for individuals and families who have lost safe and stable housing. It operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It serves as a temporary home to approximately 75 people at any given time. Typically, about one third of the residents are children which means 25 children could be staying at the shelter right now.

What Will the Funds Will Be Used For?
•    Large trash bags
•    Blankets
•    Fitted sheets
•    Disposable plates, Plastic cutlery, disposable cups, napkins and paper towels.
•    Lysol Spray
•    Hand Sanitizer

When are the Funds Needed?
Immediately. We can not stress this enough.

The GigiProject reached out to the Bucks Community Emergency Shelter back in November 2019 to see if they had any needs and following our holiday drive, we have stayed in touch.  We know they would be grateful for any donation, and we all genuinely appreciate your sacrifice.
