FACES Food Pantry Flood Recovery
On Saturday, May 19, 2018 over 5 inches of rain fell in the Farmville area causing flash-flooding across the area and low-lying areas to be flooded. Farmville Area Community Emergency Services, Inc. (more commonly referred to as FACES Food Pantry) in Farmville, Virginia needed to close its doors to more than 1100 clients due to rising water and unsafe conditions. As the waters continued to rise, volunteer crews worked to save as much food and supplies as possible, but there were still extensive losses. We are asking concerned citizens to help us raise $50,000 to replace food storage freezers and food supplies, and to help cover the clean-up costs for our 100% volunteer-coordinated organization.
FACES has served the Farmville Area since 1981 with 98% of every donation going directly to the clients we serve. Each week FACES provides food to more than 1076 people, 70% of whom are seniors and families with children. The damage to our facility can severly impact our ability to effectively serve the poor in our local community. Your help is desperately needed!
