Fields of Promise

I'll be travelling in my role with Fields of Promise, the 501c3 that we founded in 2006, from December 31-January 11. For this trip I'll be traveling with three other volunteers (two are my adult daughters) to continue our engagement in empowering families, building capacity among staff with two local NGOs, visiting and encouraging our 135 sponsored children, and delivering needed donations. I will also do further mentoring of mental health professionals who are working to treat trauma that resulted from the 2020-2023 Civil War in Tigray. These donations will go towards purchase of needed supplies to take with us to bless the projects as well as funds to share with local NGO partners. Every little bit helps and donations are tax deductible!

I (Ann) will be in Tigray for 9 days providing trauma processing to more than 200 recipients and training professionals to continue this work. I need to raise $1900 in travel and in country expenses

The organization I am working with was started by my friend and co-worker, Pam Zicker, and I have included the organization's history below.

OUR HISTORY

Fields of Promise was founded in April of 2006 by Steve and Pam Zicker. After adopting a four year old from Ethiopia in 2005, they felt called to move to Ethiopia as a family to the northern part of Ethiopia, the Tigray region, to the capitol city of Mekelle.

The Zicker family of six moved to Ethiopia in July of 2006 . Their kids were 5,6,8,and 9. Steve taught at Mekelle University Veterinary School in partnership with a US Government grant while Pam homeschooled the kids and used her clinical social work skills to assess community needs and seek out sustainable ways to make an impact in Tigray. A long-term relationship with an indigenous NGO, Operation Rescue Ethiopia (ORE) was launched in 2007, as well as plans to continue to support veterinary development in the country through the veterinary school.

Since 2007, Pam has volunteered as the Executive Director. Steve and Pam both believe that God can use anyone who is willing to be His hand and feet, and encourage others to live outside of their comfort zone and watch what God will do.

On Dec 31, a group of 5 volunteers will travel to Mekelle, Ethiopia and on to Adigrat and Adwa to support our local NGO partners through material donations, training, supportive activities and checking in on our 150 sponsored beneficiaries. These funds are being raised to supplement flight and in-country expenses and purchase supplies to transport to Ethiopia and continue our ongoing work in the Tigray region. We need to purchase more than $4,000 in supplies prior to our trip and we need your help!

Among other work, Fields of Promise engages with local non-governmental organizations in Ethiopia to support sustainable programs targeting educational advancement, improved health outcomes, and life skills for at-risk children, their families, and young adults. We also support veterinary development and holistic mentoring and mental health supports to the local community. We support these projects through financial sponsorships, capacity building training for indigenous staff, and regular contact with our partners.
