Food Chain Workers Alliance is fundraising
#GeneralStrike Fund for May 1st
The Food Chain Workers Alliance , a national coalition of 300,000 workers across the food chain, has voted to coordinate a General Strike with movement partners on May 1st, 2017, International Workers Day.
Many low-income workers of color and immigrants will be participating in the strike to demand #NoMoreTrump. Despite the risks, we will not sit by as families are shattered by immigration raids, Native sovereignty is violated, Muslims are banned, and Black and Brown communities face even more criminalization.
There are co-workers among us that are not able to survive missing even one shift's worth of pay. And while we have formed a direct action anti-retaliation network and pro-bono lawyers' committee, some workers are likely to face retaliation and will need income support for basic neds.
Therefore, we're crowdfunding a hardship fund for striking workers most in need.
We will strike for dignified jobs for all. We will strike because we do not accept exclusion based on religion, race, gender identity, class, or immigration status.
General Strikes are hard and only work when as many people as possible can participate. You'll be helping very low-wage workers decide whether to participate or not without having to worry about income they absolutely cannot afford to forego.
The Food Chain Workers Alliance is a broad-based, deeply-rooted, and transparent worker coalition with the credibility and experience to fairly and responsible adminster the fund. 100% of funds will go to striking workers on May 1st. If leftover funds remain, those funds will be donated to workers in other strike situations seeking support.
This General Strike will only work if the support is there for workers considering whether to participate. Please give today and show the lowest-income workers that a community stands with them.
