Meet Dora!

Dora was born March 3rd 2024 with malignant melanoma cancer. You read that right, this girl was born with cancer. There are almost no reported cases of puppies being born with melanoma in the history of veterinary medicine.

Dora underwent surgery at a week old to remove the tumor she was born with. At that time the surgeon did not know what they were dealing with and did not focus on removing clean margins, as no one would have ever suspected it come back as cancerous. When the mass was sent off for testing and the cancer was confirmed the family was faced with a difficult decision. They decided to try and find her a home with a rescue or sanctuary that specialized in caring for medically fragile animals.

That's where we come in. Originally, we didn't know what the prognosis would be, to be honest no one really knows since no one has ever seen a case like this. But we made a promise to Dora to care for her no matter what. For a long time or a little time,. making each day the best they possibly could be. Since coming to Foreverland we have taken Dora in to see an oncologist and get her opinion on what course of action to take. Dora got a scan done to see if the tumor had grown back, or if the cancer had spread anywhere in her tiny body. The good news is, it hasn't! Yet. The doctors want to go in and clean up the margins around where the cancer was, removing any infected area. They also would like her to receive a melanoma vaccine that is administered in a four shot series and has proven successful in a lot of adult melanoma cases.

This is the only treatment opinion for her and we believe this is her best shot at living as much of a life as possible. She is so young and has her entire life ahead of her, it would feel wrong not to try and save her life. We hope to raise the funds necessary for Dora to receive the treatment she deserves. We cannot do this without your support! Time is of the essence, the sooner we can get her in for surgery and get her on the list for the vaccine the better her chances are!
