Cranford High School Girls' Ice Hockey
After 30 years of Boys’ Ice Hockey, Cranford High School is starting a Girl’s Ice Hockey team. This is an amazing opportunity to introduce an awesome game to the girls of Cranford, as well as a chance to continue to grow the sport for girls. The excitement surrounding this team is amazing and we want to do everything we can in order to make it successful and prosper so that it can benefit future generations of Cranford girls. The lessons that hockey teaches are now available to everyone…teamwork, leadership, discipline, and perseverance. These are skills that have helped boy hockey players for years. Now it’s the girl’s turn!
Right now we have 30 girls signed up to play. Only 2 of the girls signed up are experienced players. All of the rest are either of very limited experience or none at all. They have to provide most of their own equipment, as well as purchase jerseys, bags, and pay for some of the ice costs. Equipment is expensive and anyone who plays hockey knows how much that costs! Many of these girls are playing hockey for the first time and had to go purchase skates, sticks, and everything else. The school district has been very supportive and generous in helping to cover some of the start up costs, such as one set of goalie equipment, shells, and socks as well as some additional supplies. They are also giving us some money to help defray the cost of ice time.
We are hoping to raise enough money to pay for a second set of goalie equipment as well as cover the cost of the ice and the bags for the girls. We are hoping to raise $16,000 from our friends who love hockey and want to help us grow the game. I am asking everyone who has benefited from sports in general, and hockey in particular, to help us support and grow this program.
Thank you!!!!!!!! I hope to see you all at the rink this winter!
