CHANT FOR TALLA RAMGARH!

Tonight, join Benjy & Heather Werthiemer, David Newman, Matthew Andrews, and Cheryl Chaffee at 8 pm ET for an evening of kirtan, to raise money for flood relief efforts.

Our beloved community of Talla Ramgarh, home of the Sunrise School in Northern India, has been devastated by a “cloud burst” that has caused flooding, landslides, and destruction.

 

Many of you, like us, fell in love with this small village when we visited the Sunrise School during our stay at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Madhuban. Friends of Madhuban was created as a support to the village and a desire to increase the quality of the local educational system in Talla Ramgarh and the surrounding region, most recently through the TREC program, (Teacher Resource Education Center).

 

The recent cloudburst in Talla Ramgarh, Uttarakhand on October 19, 2021 has caused havoc in the area around the Madhuban Ashram. Extensive floods have inundated roads, houses have been washed away, shops and properties have been destroyed. Fortunately, everyone at the ashram is safe, and they are housing some of the local villagers who have lost everything.

 

This destruction comes to the region when it has already suffered an extended monsoon season with heavy rains and snow in the higher regions nearby, as well as cold weather.

 

Our funds will go to support the purchase of blankets, and warm clothes as well as household items for the immediate needs of the community. We will also support repair and rebuilding of the houses for those families who have lost everything.
