Friends of The Queen Theatre
Want to join us in making a difference? We’re raising money to benefit Friends of Queen Theater, a 501(c)3 established in 2010, and any donation will help make an impact. The theatre was built in 1936 and is a historical gem. It was used for both movies, live theatrical productions and other events. It has been closed since the mid-eighties.
With the gracious help of the owner, we are hoping to bring this iconic theatre to it's original glory by taking over the lease and providing a much-needed community theatre in Kaimuki.
The 560-seat Queen Theatre is the last historical theatre of it's kind in Hawaii – but needs a lot of TLC (and funds) to renovate the facade, the iconic neon sign, renovate the plumbing and electricity, restore the interior, purchase curtains and seats, upgrade the staging, and purchase sound and lighting equipment.
Our business plan is directed at renovations, writing grants and fundraising. When finished, the theatre will be a perfect neighborhood venue for after-school classes focusing on the arts - especially for low income students – as well as another other groups needing affordable space for programs, recitals, church services, classic movies, live productions and other events.
Research and data has proved that a local community theatre facility provides huge benefits, such as an increase in revenue from local businesses, a feeling of safety for the community, job opportunities, and an increase in test scores from students who participate in after school classes focused in the arts.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to our beloved Kaimuki. Long Live The Queen!
