Moraga Adobe
Save our 1841 Adobe!
Join the Friends of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe in raising money to purchase and restore this 1841 historical landmark and make it publicly accessible for the first time in its history!
Fundraising Update- Thank you!! Wonderful news - thanks to generous donors and local community groups, the Friends of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe have now raised the $500,000 needed for the purchase and restoration for the Adobe! While we will continue to raise funds for the general operation of the Adobe including creation of museum exhibits, historical furnishings, and improved landscaping projects, the Adobe has been saved for future generations to enjoy!
About the Adobe
Located in the hills of Orinda, California, the Moraga Adobe is a important part of California history when this land was Mexican territory and large Ranchos covered the Bay Area. The Adobe was home to the prominent Moraga family whose Hispanic forefathers explored this area, founding the San Francisco Presidio and naming many familiar rivers and places, like Merced, Sacramento, and San Joaquin among others.
The Adobe will be restored to its 5-room 1848 configuration and made into a museum about the Rancho period of California and the families that lived here. We especially look forward to providing a hands-on experience for elementary school visits.
FJMA has now raised $500,000 needed by September of 2021 to complete the purchase and restoration agreement with the developers who own the property.
Help us make a difference. The funds benefit Friends of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe, and any donation will help make this historical treasure open for all to enjoy. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.
