Friends of the Weston Community Inc

Please help Weston. The “once in a 1,000 year” storm has resulted in catastrophic damage from the flood across Vermont and our little town of 600 people was particularly hard hit. Many of our neighbors have lost their homes and belongings; businesses have been destroyed.

The iconic historic Weston Playhouse, where the water level exceeded that of Storm Irene, was seriously damaged and no theatre will be able to take place there this year. Our fire station was submerged in 5 feet of water and lost most of their equipment except the fire trucks. Many buildings, including historic residences and structures around the Village Green and along the West River, will take months if not years to repair and restore – and the aid from government sources is uncertain.

The flood caused significant damage to several of our small nonprofits. Weston relies on these organizations to bring health services, pre-school, and cultural and recreational programs to our community. These organizations include the Little School, the Volunteer Fire Department, the Weston Recreation Club, Neighborhood connections, My Community Nurse, the Weston Playhouse, the Weston Theater Company, New Thought Vermont, the Rod and Gun Club, the Farrar Park Association and the Wilder Memorial Library.

The Friends of the Weston Community Inc. started this GoFundMe effort to help these small organizations during this trying time. The Friends is a local, all-volunteer 501c3 organization organized by a few Weston residents in 2021 to raise funds and provide assistance to benefit the Weston community. Wayne Granquist, Weston Town Meeting Moderator, is the president of Friends. Friends has been helping the Weston Library; now it is also turning its attention to the wider community to assist the non-profits in their recovery from this devastating flood.

Your donations will go to the Friends to be distributed to our local non-profits. Please support us with whatever you can contribute.

Weston is one of the most beautiful little towns in New England with a rich history of service organizations. We just need some serious TLC. Thank you for making this happen. Every dollar counts.
