Fulton MO Afghan Resettlement
In the fall of 2021, five Afghan families arrived in Fulton, MO and the Fulton Rotary Club had been working for months to prepare for their arrival. Since then, two families moved to other states to be near family members. Three of the original families stayed in Fulton and an additional family arrived late in 2022. The Fulton Rotary Club helped all the families find permanent affordable housing except for one. One family is a family of 14. Temporary housing was available for this large group upon their arrival, for a year, and they are now in a rental guaranteed for another year.
But the family needs to be in its own permanent home. Finding a large enough home is a challenge and they likely wouldn’t be able to afford it. This is where the River City Habitat for Humanity in Jefferson City comes into play.
Habitat for Humanity homeowners put sweat equity into their new homes. They also attend classes to ensure they have the knowledge needed to maintain their homes and balance finances. Habitat then sells the home it built to its client at zero percent interest.
We are fortunate to have the River City Habitat for Humanity help with this project and to have a lot donated. The Fulton Rotary Club will need to raise at least $30,000. People who wish to volunteer (no matter their skill levels) should contact organizers by emailing [email redacted].
We encourage everyone to become involved in this project to know that 14 people will have safe, affordable housing. Thank you for your donations and support!
