Go Fund Girls! Women's Literacy Campaign
Hey everyone, we're here because we're determined to keep doing good in the world for women, for Sherlockians, but most importantly, for READERS and WRITERS.
PRIZES:
100% of your donations go directly to GWN, no middleperson involved. The Top Three Donors to this drive will each receive a signed book and personal card from me with a matching tea pairing, the same from Laurie R. King, and a copy of the canon with card and tea from Kris.
Two Randomly Chosen Donors, of ANY AMOUNT, will receive a gift package curated by me from leftover donations to the Daintiest Thing Under a Bonnet Charity Ball, through which the Babes over 7 wonderful years raised over $17,000 for wounded American soldiers, plus a personal card and one of my signed books.
CLICK THIS LINK TO PLACE an eBay bid on this beautiful Sherlock Holmes profile portrait by Molly Hillson, 100% going to our proceeds.
There's some debate as to the complete accuracy of this timeline, but the website timeanddate.com has listed March 1st AS...
drumroll, please.........
***BOTH Read Across America Day AND the first day of Women's History Month!***
I, Lyndsay Faye, decided that this required a Sudden Life Pop-Up Surprise Appearance Unannounced Gotcha Crowdsourcing FUNDRAISER.
Which I haven't done in a while, so I'm very excited. Our two themes--women and reading, both essentials for Life on Earth--could not be better represented than by my chosen charity, GirlsWriteNow . And I couldn't ask for better partners in this venture than friends Laurie R King and Kristina "Curly" Manente of the Baker Street Babes. We're here to raise as much as we can possibly scrape and thresh and hoe and scoop and sweep together within a little over ten days, so buckle up and get ready to share this cause with us, please!
I was a mentor with Girls Write Now for 3 years, and it's amazing. Professional female writers meet with assigned aspiring female high school writers once a week for the entire school year--working on their pieces, talking about their challenges, creating 8 genre-driven workshops, and providing each other with one-on-one perspective, experience, friendship, and support.
My mentee of 3 years, Karilis Cruz, wildly thrived in the program. She went from being deeply averse to reading her work aloud during sessions to co-hosting (with me) one of our major public events--stage and mic and podium and all--supporting our yearly published anthology. She's now a successful NYC businesswoman and I'm so proud of her that I get all glowy about it. See us rock it right here!
Regarding the annual Anthology--these girls get to see their words IN PRINT at the end of every school year, and let me tell you, that is life-changing.
We hope you'll join us and share the love before March 1st as we celebrate readers, women, and especially women's opportunity to READ!
Entering our fundraising contest is easy:
Just donate! That's it! Give early and often, we don't have much time!
Let's go, people. Mobilize for books, for the fair sex, and for equality EVERYWHERE.
Xoxo
Lyndsay
