Unprecedented wildfires are devastating the beautiful Hawaiian island of Maui. Thousands of families have been displaced, historic areas, including the town of Lahaina, have been destroyed, and over 50 lives have been lost.

This disaster ranks among the deadliest US wildfires in recent memory. The fires, fueled by hurricane winds, moved so rapidly that some residents were forced to seek refuge in the ocean to escape the flames and smoke.
