Capture the Moon Farm

While dreaming about what a new home could provide for us and our
clients, we were contacted by the Moon Family, owners of historic
Moon Farm near Fruita, Colorado. The Moons have been looking for a
unique and special owner for their property, one who would keep the
history of Moon Farm alive. In the last 50 years, Moon Farm has been a child-loved, family-favorite attraction in Western Colorado. It is most known for its Pumpkin Patch each fall and school class trips to the educational and imagination-
inducing playhouses and museum-like attractions. It is truly a unique property that has grown to include two vacation rental homes that offer short rides to 18 Road Mountain Bike Trails Area near Fruita, located on federally owned BLM lands. What does Grand Valley Equine Assisted Learning Center at Moon Farm
look like? One can easily imagine the endless possibilities. In addition to
income producing attractions to support GVEALC’s operations, there is a perfect spot for a large horse arena to allow for hippotherapy and equine-assisted psychotherapy and learning. Our therapy horses will thrive alongside the rabbits, sheep, goats and peacocks at the popular petting zoo. Some of the pumpkin fields can easily be converted to hay fields for our horses. Future plans include increasing our herd from five to over fifteen horses at Moon Farm.
The work of GVEALC at Moon Farm brings us alongside families of the disabled clients we serve. Moon Farm can provide these families a sanctuary to decompress while their family member is in an equine therapy session. Siblings can play on the attractions while parents relax, knowing their loved ones are safe. We are beginning to partner with the Division of Vocational Rehab, the community, and parents to identify employment opportunities for high-functioning special-needs children and adults to help care for the farm and learn meaningful skills. We can also provide work-study opportunities for Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Colorado Mesa University (CMU) students in Mesa County.
