The long standing and much-loved Lewes Doo Dah Parade, the spontaneous celebration that hundreds enjoy each year, needs your help.

Last year, for the first time since the parade started over 50 years ago, the town required that an official application be filed. The children of Phyllis Hoenen and Carolyn Shockley, the heart and soul and originators of the parade, formed an LLC: The Lewes Doo Dah Parade, to keep the legacy alive. We paid for the application and purchased liability insurance with the help of a small group of friends who, upon hearing about the situation, donated money to cover the cost.

This gets us to why we are reaching out to you. We have started a GoFundMe page to cover the costs of presenting the parade. In the spirit of community, we are only asking for small contributions of $50 or less from those of you who want to help keep the parade alive – as it always has been – a spontaneous event.

We will be partnering with The Greater Lewes Foundation, who will handle the financial aspect of this outreach.

The GoFundMe page will be open until July 15, 2023. After the expenses of the LLC, the parade application fee, insurance, and custodial fees are paid, we will donate whatever is left to The Cape Community Fund, a small local nonprofit that helps those in the Lewes, Rehoboth, and Milton Cape Henlopen region in times of catastrophic need.
