It Takes a Village: Supporting One of our Own
Dear GILD Members, Friends, Family, and Allies,
There’s an old saying that “it takes a village”—and in the GILD community, we know just how true that is. When one of us is in need, we come together. Today, we’re asking for your help as we rally behind one of our own.
A few weeks ago, our beloved GILD member, Jason, was rushed by ambulance to GBMC in critical condition. His blood sugar had reached a dangerously high 605. During his emergency care, doctors discovered gangrene in the middle toe of his left foot—a result of uncontrolled diabetes. That toe, along with surrounding bone, had to be surgically amputated.
He is now receiving ongoing treatment and has recently been transferred to a rehabilitation facility, where he’s facing a long road to recovery including relearning how to walk and adapt to his new physical condition.
But his journey is far from over. Once he returns home, he’ll need daily support to manage his diabetes—including learning how to administer insulin injections four times a day. His recovery will require not just medical care, but also the strength and support of a caring community.
This is where you come in.
We’re launching this fundraiser to help cover his medical expenses, rehabilitation, follow-up care, and the support he’ll need at home as he navigates this new reality.
If you're unable to donate financially, please consider sharing this page—or offering your time if you have a healthcare background and can help him learn to manage his diabetes safely and confidently.
Let’s come together and remind him that he’s not alone—GILD is his village. And together, we can make a real difference.
With deep appreciation,
GILD
The funds donated to the GoFund Me page will be distributed to Jason on an as needed basis per his medical expenses and will be managed by the treasurer of GILD.
