Fundraising for the Guyanese Diaspora Charity
Dr. Mirza Rahman, who will be running the 2023 NYC Marathon to help raise money for the Guyanese Diaspora Charity (GDC), is a Co-Founder and President of the GDC. The GDC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created in 2022, in Pennsylvania, USA. It is focused on charitable, scientific, and educational work, including the provision of financial, medical, research, and educational support to individuals and organizations in the Guyanese communities, both in Guyana and in America.
Several members of the GDC have been to Guyana five times in the past two years and they have worked with medical colleagues there to provide health care in a variety of communities, including in Georgetown, Annandale, Bush Lot, Parika, & at the Charity hospital. The GDC has also been involved in supporting the Family Medicine Residency program in Guyana and the School of Pharmacy at the University of Guyana. In addition, the GDC awarded two scholarships in 2023 to graduating students from the Richmond Hill HS, and these students are currently attending college at Cornell University & the University of Rochester respectively.
We have set an ambitious goal of raising $50,000 and are asking for your generous donations, knowing that all monies received by the GDC from this fundraising effort will be used to deliver care and services to the Guyanese community, given that the administrative costs are covered by separate funds used to create the GDC.
