Boston Marathon is my 41st Birthday and I'll be committing the race to raising money for The Hall Steps Foundation and microloans to extremely poor individuals in Ethiopia. I will be personally matching all donations until I hit my goal!

Every day it bothers me that there are people starving to death around the world when there is more than enough to prevent it. I'm committing my race to changing that. Please join me in giving loans to women living in extreme poverty so they can start their own business and work their way out of poverty. This is one of the best ways I've seen to give aid because it gives individuals the dignity of being able to provide for their own families. The loans are then repaid and reinvested in another individual, so it keeps getting paid forward. Thank you for supporting my race and giving me the ultimate birthday gift on birthday #41!

I am an aspiring 50-States marathoner.  The 2022 Boston Marathon will be my 71st marathon, and my 44th State (getting close to having all 50).  It will also complete the last of my 6 World Marathon Majors.

More information about Hall Foundation: The foundation aims to target its efforts to address the support of children in Ethiopia and give them the chance to improve their lives. Founded by Ryan and Sara Hall, “America’s Fastest Couple” as the Fastest Half Marathoners in American history Olympian (Ryan Hall also holds the title of Fastest Marathoner in American history), they have stepped up to the call to serve these orphans, children, and adults in underdeveloped areas.

I’m running the Boston Marathon with these people in mind- and heart.

As you might know, I learned to enjoy running in the past few years.

 

My wife Char is running the Boston Marathon again, and I really wanted to join her in that journey.

 

And let's be honest, even though I became a decent recreational jogger finishing a few marathons and some half-marathons, I am still not right there to qualify for Boston anytime soon.

 

Once I saw a chance to join the Hall Steps Foundation Boston Marathon 2022 team, I decided to jump right in. Better than running Boston, is to run Boston for a great cause.

 

This fundraising program will help protect and empower vulnerable women and children living in extreme poverty in Ethiopia by giving them

In 2022 I will be running my 8th Boston Marathon and my daughter will be running her first Boston. We have decided to run the race together; very special for me as a dad. Getting to the line at this year's Boston Marathon is special after going through the longest injury of my career. But this injury is nothing compared to the hardships I saw every day when I got to spend the last 2 weeks of my buildup in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. There are over 60,000 kids living on the streets in this city alone. When I see these kids, I see my daughters, and what could have been their fate.

The Hall Steps Foundation has made grants to support organizations doing sustainable and meaningful work with orphaned and vulnerable children, and I'm excited to commit this year's race to another grant to support the Kalkidan Center run by Make Your Mark Intl. I got a chance to visit this home when I was in Addis and hear firsthand some of the stories of girls who have hope for their life and the life of their young children. Not only are their basic needs met, but they receive counseling to heal from the abuses of life on the street.

I will be matching the first $25,000 in donations personally since it is a cause I believe in so much. The Hall Steps Foundation is a 501c3 organization- every dollar is tax deductible and 100% go to the projects since we have no overhead.
