Plank Nashville
UPDATE:
Justin planked for 8:08!!! What a maniac! Thanks to all for coming out to The Centennial and supporting the cause! We had over 20 pledges come in during the few minutes leading up to the challenge and over $3k raised or committed at the time of this post! On top of that, we had a Scout full of supplies donated at the event.
We can’t thank all of the contributors enough, along with The Centennial for hosting and allowing such shenanigans, and Justin himself!
Remember this is just the beginning of the relief efforts and we encourage everyone to continue to donate their time, resources and funds where they can. We’d love to see others set up their own challenges and make #PlankNashville an ongoing motivation for contributions!
And props to Justin, an 8 minute plank is no doubt #NashvilleStrong.
Last week, at an 'upscale dive' in The Nations, a challenge over planking was made. After George Hood set the world record for planking for over 8 hours, bar owner Justin Canfield was challenged by loyal patron Kevin Wilson to plank for at least 10 minutes. He was given a week to prepare. As a community bar, there was a lot of interest and discussion over whether he could do it. Most agreed that he wasn't physically capable but was stubborn enough to accomplish the feat anyway. After the tragic events of Monday night, in which The Nations was largely spared, the desire to help other areas of our city transformed the challenge amongst friends into Plank Nashville. Our mission is to raise awareness and generate support for those impacted by the storm. After all, planking is a feat of strength and we are #NashvilleStrong.
On Saturday, March 7 at 2pm, Justin will be performing the challenge at The Centennial. Supporters have started to pledge amounts to donate based on the amount of time he can plank, and as interest has grown, we wanted to open up the opportunity to others. All proceeds from this GoFundMe will go directly to Hands On Nashville, a local charity that are spearheading relief efforts. Alternatively, we encourage donating to the Community Foundation of Middle TN. We will also be collecting supplies at the time of the event and delivering them to the Community Resource Center; a list of needed supplies can be found on their website. We also encourage all of our community to volunteer through the Hands On Nashville site.
We hope our idea invigorates others and that this only kicks-off for the long road of recovery ahead. Post your #PlankNashville pictures and videos or set up your own challenge.
