“The souls of some people shine so bright, that even their shadows bathe us in light.”
– Shakieb Orgunwall
On January 6, 2023, we lost this bright light. And truer words could not have been spoken. Victoria was a mother, sister, friend, mentor and so much more to so many. She’s been called a walking mitzvah. She gave 200% to everyone and every cause she encountered. So much so, that this soul is still casting its light. Victoria’s selfless dedication and unwavering commitments to her community is immeasurable. Vicky was the president of Mount Sinai Heritage Trust, the steward organization of Heritage Park, for the past 4 years. As an employee of Stony Brook Medicine, Vicky also gave countless hours volunteering. She participated in several initiatives to benefit the Stony Brook community; Child Life services, Children’s Hospital, cancer walks, Covid vaccination events, and spirit events are just a few. The running theme in all of Vicky’s service was community, hope, and love. Everything she did fostered this. A committee has been formed to memorialize Vicky and her impact on the surrounding community. Lasting legacies are being planned at Heritage Park and Stony Brook Children’s. Vicky spent countless hours in the park and a fitting tribute is being designed in the form of an active garden space, incorporating her favorite trees and flowers. We are also working with the Stony Brook community to honor her at that location.
