Support Hindu Scholars: Understanding Hinduphobia
Understanding Hinduphobia is an initiative to develop greater public consciousness about Hinduphobia, particularly in the West. Developing scholarship and research that rigorously dissects prevailing Hinduphobic commentary and establishes a greater understanding of the Hindu American experience is vital. This is a first-of-its-kind effort, and we urge you to join us. Consider donating towards this historic initiative.
Understanding Hinduphobia 2021 was a landmark event. It was the first time that scholars, activists, students, and allies convened to explore Hinduphobia with the depth, rigor, and cross-disciplinary examination that the phenomenon demands. UH 2021 was the first time the Hindu community created a multi-disciplinary academic space to inform the general public about Hinduphobia. Nearly a thousand people registered for the online conference from across the globe.
This year, Understanding Hinduphobia will have two platforms - a public, HSC-hosted web-based conference and a smaller, in-person closed gathering of scholars where we will share our research, collaborate, build community, and inspire.
Understanding Hinduphobia 2022 Scholar Conference connects senior and emergent scholars to start building our collective, our sangha. We are all committed to laying the foundation stones for this area of research within the Academy. We are motivated by our commitment to clear the obstacles preventing authentic, diverse expressions of Dharma in the academy and ensuring that the work that examines Hinduphobia is rigorous and meets high academic standards.
All of us are deeply committed to our scholarship, which is neither rewarded nor sufficiently recognized by the Academy. In fact, we do this work often at great peril to our career security. It can be draining and isolating. That’s why UH 2022 will convene at a retreat center nestled in nature, allowing us to restore our prana, connect with each other, and be with Bhumi Mata.
Understanding Hinduphobia is for all of us. We turn to our community for support, to help nurture this space and build a different path for our community and for our children.
