Historic Ships in Baltimore

For over 50 years, the historic United States Coast Guard Cutter TANEY  (WPG / WHEC 37) met our country's needs on the high seas - safeguarding lives and property, enforcing our laws, defending our shores, and fighting alongside our allies - all over the world.  Built at the height of the Great Depression, USCGC TANEY began serving our country the day her keel was laid on May 1, 1935- and she continued to do so, without a break, until December 1986!  Since 1986 TANEY has continued to serve by educating literally millions of visitors - tourists, students, scouts and even active duty military personnel - on the US Coast Guard's vital role in the history of America in the 20th Century - and beyond.



Today, Historic Ships in Baltimore is raising funds to dry-dock and preserve the National Historic Landmark USCGC TANEY - a project of vital urgency in 2019.  This campaign - "Adopt an Anode for USCGC TANEY" is aimed at raising the funds necessary to purchase and install zinc anodes that will protect the ship's hull for up to ten years.  These sacrificial anodes will mitigate galvanic corrosion from stray electrical current in the water.  A total of 38 such anodes will be installed in dry dock, and these can be replaced by divers as needed over time.  By adequately protecting TANEY's underwater hull plating from the corrosive marine environment, we can ensure that future generations will continue to learn from TANEY's example of service to our country.
