2024 Boston Marathon Run for the HMA
"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.”
― Plato
I, Kathy Curry, would like to thank all those who have supported me in the past. This is my third time running for the Hopkinton Music Association (HMA). I ran in 2015 (their first marathon runner) and 2019. In 2019, we raised over $7250 including my sales from The Common where I donate all profits and efforts to the charity I run for. I would love to surpass that this year! Thank you to all who joined me on that journey!
This will be my eighth Boston Marathon Charity run. As I am getting older (I will be 59 on Marathon Monday) and having battled long COVID, it has certainly been a challenge to train. I admit, I am not a fan of running in the cold either but while I am capable, I will keep trying to make opportunities for others. My inspiration is the children who benefit from my efforts.
After running my first marathon for the HMA, I became a member of the committee for many years. The members are the most competent, committed, cohesive, and caring volunteers I have ever worked with. Not only did I have children who have benefited directly from the support of the HMA, but I also know what it can do for others. After my sister’s family fell upon bad times and moved in with us, my nephew felt lost. For him, this group helped give his life meaning, and purpose and it was his saving grace. It gave him an opportunity he would not have without its existence. I know he is not alone. Music is universal.
The HMA embraces the opportunity for all and wants students to have a support system so that they can thrive regardless of personal disadvantages. As a child, I was economically disadvantaged and it took a village to give me the opportunity I needed to reach my dreams. I, in turn, would like to continue to do that for others.
Here are some of the ways your donation helps: Obtains and coordinates volunteers for MICCA and music concerts throughout the year; provides concert formalwear and jackets for HS Bands, Choral, and Orchestra groups; makes lesson scholarships for over 60 current music students in grade 6-11 and scholarships for Seniors; provides buses for the grade 8 trip; Instrument purchase, maintenance and repair; enrichment programs and much more.
Thank you for your kindness and support!
