Kuruchi Lake Rejuvenation Project
India Association of San Antonio & San Antonio Tamil Sangam is promoting “Kuruchi Lake Rejuvenation Project” in Ambalapattu village, Tanjore District
Tanjore, which is known as the granary of South India is slowly becoming a land scarce of water. The land that produced three yields a year is now struggling to produce one. Reduced flow in Cauvery water and inconsistent rainfall has driven farmers away from agriculture. Of those who remain in farming, a significant portion have moved into coconut farming. While this brought a level of stability to the region, Cyclone Gaja in 2018 changed it all.
Ambalapattu, which is a village in the lower delta region of Tanjore was one of the villages that was hit real hard. Most farmers, who were dependent on coconut trees for their income lost their livelihood overnight. The village with about 2,500 families is slowly rebuilding. In an effort to help restore a level of normalcy and to make the village water sufficient, volunteers from the village are rejuvenating a 8 acre lake. We would like to invite you to join hands in this noble effort.
Your little contribution will go a long way in changing farmers livelihood
