Indiana's LGBTQ+ youth needs you.
Join me in making a difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ youth across the state. My name is Kate Wehby-Rauch and I'm running 100 miles at the Burning River Endurance Run July 29-30th to raise $2,000 for Indiana Youth Group, a non-profit organization that supports LGBTQ+ youth across the Hoosier state.
Your support is more important than ever.
- 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year.
- LGBTQ+ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than non-LGBTQ+ youth. Homelessness is even more prevalent in youth of color and transgender youth.
- 300+ anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across the US this year alone. Including Indiana which banned gender-affirming care for trans youth.
- LGBTQ+ youth who have supportive families and peers have much lower negative mental and physical health outcomes. Even just one supportive adult can reduce the risk of suicide by 40%
This is where Indiana Youth Group comes in. Indiana Youth Group creates safer spaces to foster community and provides programming that empowers LGBTQ+ youth and magnifies their voices. This includes:
- Basic needs support like clothing, laundry, food, and hygiene.
- Case management to assess at-risk youth and determine additional support they require by connecting them to services provided by partner organizations for mental health, housing, and legal assistance.
- Support and discussion groups for LGBTQ+ youth and their families
- Project Prism, a rapid rehousing program for LGBTQ+ young adults (18-24) to get them off of the streets and into safe, stable housing.
- Programming and activities where LGBTQ+ youth can feel accepted and affirmed.
I've set a goal of $2,000 - that's $20 per mile - to support the good, important work of Indiana Youth Group.
All donations go directly to IYG.
I'll be posting regular updates here, Instagram (@katewehby) and Strava on the progress of this fundraiser, my training, and on race day. Let's do this!
