Help My Seniors Publish COVID19-themed Book
Can you help our graduating seniors publish their COVID19-related essays and poetry before graduation day? Your donations would go to publishing expenses only: the printing binding and mailing of the physical texts through Lulu Publishing Services for Nonprofits. The authoring, designing, editing, and proofing is being handled by Inwood Academy's Class of 2020. In recognition of their achievements, this project supports professional quality books of full length. Additionally, the campaign's funding goal covers the cost of publishing digital copies through Amazon Kindle. They've started sharing their work on a blog here: www.inwoodreadsinwoodwrites.org. Check out their work and tell us it doesn’t belong in a book! Grab a Kleenex and prepare to laugh.
The idea for an end-of-year publication grew from our students' desire to write, reflect, and read their way through this pandemic. To make authors of these young people before graduation day, we must submit the final manuscript with payment by May 30th. Staff Advisors supporting these young authors include School Founder Christina Reyes, Principal in Residence Bianca Mercedes, 12th Grade ELA Teacher Miguel Garcia, and 8th Grade ELA Teacher Dominick Josse-Martin.
Project Context: In late March, our school founder Christina Reyes announced a school-wide literacy campaign titled #InwoodReads #InwoodWrites. This initiative promotes the acts of reading and writing as essential to our community’s wellbeing. Since its announcement, our school was worked to match students with books that speak to them and writing support that stretches their use of language. By responding with this book project, our seniors have already exceeded all of our expectations. Join us as we celebrate the Class of 2020 through as they fashion news ways for celebrating their achievements. With your support, they can memorialize this unique historical moment through academic and artistic production.
