COVID-19 Support
In a mere few weeks, the world and life as we know it has come to a grinding halt - just like that, with no announcement. In a pioneering era of technological breakthroughs and dominion (yes, long live Big Data), we find ourselves in the grip of a deadly virus.
Here at Gita Nagari Eco Farm & Sanctuary, before COVID-19 hit the North East, the Farm was well positioned for a bullish year, operating at full steam by February. In particular, our Guest & Hospitality operations had numerous events lined up. With fertile land readied for a strong growing season, the countdown to the relaunch of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, now partnered with multiple farms, was set. Solid infrastructure was in place. Effective stakeholder management in place. Our high performing team of volunteers and staff had self-organized around managing all the above value streams of work and responsibilities. All the while, our happy cows and oxen looked-on at all the hustle and bustle while chewing their cud.
Living in a location remote from an urbanized metropolis, our approach in developing the Farm has always been underpinned by sustainable living and preparedness, with a leaning towards self-reliance. Although we can subsist, like most small businesses and non-profits, we were really caught off-guard by a toppling back-kick of social distancing to the world and local economy. Indeed, having compassionate living as one of our core values, we feel sadness as we reflect on the hundreds of thousands of persons afflicted, and the millions more family members and friends, hoping that another loved one is not added to the death toll.
Event cancellations hit us! We scurry into scenario planning. We attempt to see the future by taking into account the impact of certain variables. We identify the critical uncertainties as we learn that we may need to have contingencies in place for a while. While we find that our position is relatively safe, and while we attempt to access the timely relief programs available, we do need alternate income streams.
As a non-profit, our strategy has been to produce minimum viable products and processes (MVPs) on-site and then scale up. Productivity and performance is key. However we lack the source funding for these MVPs as they are generally through guest traffic, guest inspiration and from medium to large events.
We write you with an appeal for financial support during this time, for both the duration of the pandemic and its after-effects, so that we may continue the important work that is to be done from this catalyst project, a space developed and poised for accelerating global transformation through compassionate living. A model based on values much needed in today’s society, offering real alternatives to the crises we face.
We thank you for your time, consideration and generosity. Most importantly we thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement.
Thank you, from our hearts to yours,
Your indebted partners in global transformation through compassionate living,
Dhruva and the Gita Nagari Eco Farm & Sanctuary Team
