Hurricane Helene has devastated our small mountain town of Boone, NC, and deeply impacted our Muslim brothers and sisters. This once-in-a-lifetime natural disaster has caught our community off guard, leaving many unprepared for the destruction it caused. Many of our members' homes have been completely flooded, and some are still without power or running water. The Red Cross and National Guard have been called in to assist, but the need remains great.

Our Muslim community here is small, and our mosque operates out of a modest 900-square-foot rental space, previously used by other organizations. The nearest halal butcher is a three-hour round trip, but the Islamic Center provides the option for our community to buy halal meat locally. Unfortunately, we lack the resources and infrastructure that larger communities, Mā shāʼ Allāh (ما شاء الله), benefit from in bigger cities.

We are humbly reaching out for your support to help us expand our footprint and strengthen our financial and physical infrastructure. The funds raised will be used to support the Islamic Center of Boone, allowing us to better serve our community both in times of prosperity and during crises. With your help, Insha’Allah, we can build a stronger foundation for whatever challenges may come our way.

Our ultimate goal is to raise enough funds to purchase a building that we can call our own, providing more space for families, especially for our children.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We live in a small yet beautiful resort community and college town called Boone in North Carolina. Our masjid’s prayer area is just 500 square feet—smaller than many kitchens. Despite its modest size, it serves as a vital part of our community, offering prayer services and Halal meat, which would otherwise require a 3–4 hour round trip to access. The nearest masjid is a 2.5–3 hour round trip, making our center indispensable for local Muslims.

Our gatherings have been graced by local faith leaders, university directors, and the chiefs of the police and fire departments. Both local university students and faculty find our masjid to be a space where they can experience peace, worship, and connect with other local families. Additionally, our Islamic Center has been featured in both local and international media, with links shared below. We are also honored to have been gifted a 1951 English translation of the Quran by a local non-Muslim friend—a treasured heirloom that had been in her family for generations.

Unfortunately, while most members of our community are able to attend, a separate group of about 50 individuals, including men,

women and children, cannot join us due to our limited space. One family, whose son has autism, is also unable to participate comfortably because the current space cannot accommodate their needs. Furthermore, the number of Muslim students has also increased over time and given our small rental space we are unfortunately falling short of our goal to be a truly inclusive and welcoming space for everyone.

Recently, a retired doctor’s office nearby has become available for purchase at approximately $1 million. This space represents a transformative opportunity for our community. We need your help to raise $650,000 to make this vision a reality.

As Allah reminds us:

"Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise." (Sahih al-Bukhari, 450)
