Overbrook Urban Farm Initiative
1) Clear Site, 2) Amend Soil and 3) Repair Storage Shed.
In the fall of 2019, the Overbrook Environmental Education Center acquired a 30,000 sq. ft. former blighted vacant lot near a residential community and began converting it into a neighborhood farm and urban agriculture learning center. Over the past seven months, with the help of academic partners, community groups and neighbors, the Overbrook Center removed 90% of the site debris and has obtained resources to purchase a full High Tunnel / Green House and Raised-bed planters.
The Overbrook Environmental Education Center is a division of JASTECH Development Services, Inc. Established in 1998, JASTECH is a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation in Pennsylvania, with a mission to promote conservation of the built & natural environments, improved public health, and increased self-enrichment though facilitated outdoor activities in inner-city neighborhoods.
