Holly Alvarez is fundraising
JBFC Fundraiser
In July of 2017, I was able to spend the day at the JBFC school and girls home near Mwanza, Tanzania. The campus was home to 48 girls who had nowhere else to go, as well as a school which provided education to around 500 students from the nearby village. It was an amazing experience, and I found everyone-from the librarian to the girls' basketball team- to be both kind and welcoming. The campus itself was also amazing in its quest for self-sufficiency. Its farm helped produce enough profit to offer meals to the children of the local village who enrolled in the school. Being on the shores of Lake Victoria, they were able to incorporate a solar-powered pump to provide them fresh water. Improving the quality of life for these kids is something they are committed to for the long run, and the aim of this fundraiser is to provide the means to further their progress.
Currently, they are in need of a milk cow and chicken incubators. Separately, the cow will cost $1,000 and the incubator $350, but with the liberties, GoFundMe takes from each donation the goal of $2,000 should just cover the amount required. Your donations would greatly benefit the kids attending the school as well as the 48 girls living permanently in the home. A milk cow would immensely benefit their nutrition, and chicken incubators would eventually add more protein to their diet.
These kids deserve just as much of a healthy life as the rest of us, who don't have to worry about whether our water is safe to drink or when the next time we'll get a filling meal will be. They are young, hopeful, full of a love of learning (almost all the books in the library were checked out), and above all deserving of a secure and nurturing environment. They were unique, funny, and complex. Some were sassy, others were shy, and two were so candid with their backstory that my dad, in particular, felt an instant connection with these young people. They are honest, kind, and on their way to great things, if only they continue to receive funding for their education. With just a small donation, you can help these kids, and those of them for years to come, achieve better education, better nutrition, and a better quality of life. Thank you.
