Ethan Bufford-Cournoyer, is fundraising
Eagle Scout Project
Project Overview
Camp Nerden is located right next to Powder Ridge and provides recreational programs and leisure-time activities for children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities from the central Connecticut area. The camp enrolls approximately 125 individuals ranging from age 5 through adulthood. I have proposed a new structure that will provide:
Shade and rest space for campers, adjacent to the basketball court, when engaging in activities
Additional storage for recreational and sports equipment, freeing up existing space for alternate uses
A new activity space for campers for games or crafts, that provides open visibility for safety and supervision
The proposed activity structure will be located adjacent to the basketball court and constructed of wood and positioned on top of a concrete slab. The proposed structure will be similar to the picture below and has been approved by the Board of Directors for Camp Nerden.
Activity Structure and Proposed Location
The structure is targeted for completion in summer of 2022 and the estimated cost of the project is approximately $8,300. Funds will be solicited primarily via a Go-Fund me page, direct calls to businesses and a potential fundraising activity.
About Me
I am a junior at Coginchaug High School and am currently a Life Scout and have been in Scouts for 11 years. Other activities include baseball, snowmobiling, woodworking and, more recently, welding. I am also the captain of the explorer post at the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Company.
This project is dear to me as I have volunteered at Camp Nerden for 5 years. I enjoy working with people with disabilities tremendously and am also actively engaged with the Unified Sports program at Coginchaug High School.
My passions all involve helping people in some capacity. Beyond high school, I plan to attend college and pursue a career in the fire service or in the military.
Any donations are greatly appreciated
Thank you very much,
Sincerely,
Ethan Bufford-Cournoyer
