Justice for Migrant Families Inc.

As families across the United States prepare to be together, ICE has left more than thirty people at the side of the road at a gas station in rural Western New York with nothing but the clothes on their back. They have no access to phones, appropriate clothing for the winter weather, food, money, limited or no English proficiency, and few transportation options. What should be a moment of joy and relief soon turns into a moment of yet more adversity and dehumanization.


Justice for Migrant Families (JFMF) has joined forces with Batavia volunteers to make sure that every person we find is reunited with family and community and has support in the final leg of their arduous journey. We have been able to help two hundred people this year alone.

What has transpired over the past week is a microcosm of the work that Justice for Migrant Families has done over the past 5 years. 


Since its founding in 2016 in response to the largest workplace raid under the Obama administration, JFMF has been able to respond to these urgent situations while also building out an on the ground, daily presence in Buffalo and Western New York. We continue to balance this direct support with organizing, advocacy and education. 

We are holding this campaign in the hopes that we will be able to raise $50,000 altogether for our programs to celebrate our fifth year and to continue on with our work. 

It’s because of YOUR financial investment in JFMF that we can continue to fight for justice and equity for all immigrants in our community, regardless of immigration status or country of origin.

Justice for Migrant Families

Justice for Migrant Families has been funding 20 commissaries each month for folks who are detained in immigration detention in the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility. However, the number of requests for commissary has been growing and there are currently 30 people on a waiting list who have been waiting for weeks to be able to pay for calls and food.

That is where you come in. All funds raised will go directly to providing commissary. We are hoping to raise $900 in order to fulfill some of the longer outstanding commissary requests.

Everything within immigration detention costs money, including calls with loved ones, some calls to lawyers, soap and shampoo, and food to supplement the often inedible and meager food that the facility provides. Commissary is the way that people are able to access these immediate and pressing needs.

To cover one commissary, donate $30 or whatever you can to get us to our goal of $900!

Our advocacy around immigration detention is working, thanks to those who are currently detained who have taken action to bring attention to the poor conditions within the Buffalo Federal Detention Center, as well as those who have taken action to amplify messages! 

Now, we need help to raise funds to support  releases from the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, NY. Batavia has begun releasing people from immigration detention where they are dropped off at a gas station with very little resources to secure basic needs.  People need funds for temporary housing, transportation, phones, and food. We are coordinating with our regional partners Los Samaritanos to make sure that people released have their needs met!  

Over the past few weeks we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of people released from immigration detention and need to raise funds to make sure that people will be able to have their basic needs met!  As of today, March 11, Justice for Migrant Families, Los Samaritanos, and many people coming together to help, we have been able to support and assist 26 releases!
