A decade ago over 10,000 people made "I WILL..." commitments as part of Kanu Hawaii's campaign to intentionally Be the Change. Ten years later, we revisited the 1,500 commitments made by thousands of people and realized...
WE DID IT!!
As of today, the top 16 commitments from the original "I WILL..." Campaign (those with over 1,000 individuals signing on) have either become normalized or are being addressed through regulation and policy change. See below for a listing of the commitments that were made.
Yet, despite our best efforts and success with moving the needle on these locally, global numbers continue to worsen. We need solutions now more than ever if we're going to CHANGE where we are collectively driving our planet.
The great thing is that these commitments have shown us is that when enough people commit to taking action we CAN change the direction we are headed. Setting meaningful goals and inspiring ourselves and others to make lifestyle changes actually works. So the question then is, "What new commitments are most important now and can we inspire the masses to participate in less time?".
We say yes.
We believe that TOGETHER WE CAN synergize large scale participation and meaningfully turn the tide. The fact is, technology will not save us. Individuals making a personal commitment and inspiring others to make change happen is the only thing that is going to change our direction.
Can we partner with you to inspire change across all of Hawaii?
In the coming weeks, we will be launching a new slate of commitments, vetted by our community heroes and organizations out there doing the work on the frontlines, and asking for your support in making them the new normal.
To kick off this new campaign we are asking you to donate today. Your support will help us to move this successful approach of social change forward at the level we need to make a real impact.

TOP 16 "I WILL..." COMMITMENTS

3499 - I will take my own reusable bag for all shopping purposes
2999 - I will use a reusable water bottle and not buy bottled water
2962 - I will recycle as much as possible
2339 - I will change at least two bulbs to compact fluorescents (CFLs) or light emitting diodes (LEDs)
1550 - I will Live Aloha (take twelve specific actions)
1435 - I will buy locally-made products and from locally-owned companies whenever possible
1372 - I will be a positive role model to children and encourage at least one other to do the same
1348 - I will vote and encourage at least one person to vote who didn't last time
1346 - I will go to farmers' markets and buy as much from local food sources as possible
1275 - I will use a reusable mug instead of paper cups
1216 - I will buy from businesses that treat workers, community, and the environment well
1200 - I will conserve water at home
1098 - I will volunteer my time with a non profit organization
1094 - I will get off of junk mail lists to save paper, trees, and our climate
1081 - I will turn off lights in rooms that are not in use
1051 - I will walk, bike, or catch the bus at least once per week instead of riding or driving in a car
