Brookie is a 7 year old female tortoiseshell cat that is in desperate need of your help! Her owner was placed into assisted living earlier this year. Brookie was then surrendered to our shelter, along with her brother Puffington, in April when a neighbor intervened before the owner's son could release her into the wild. When she arrived, she was scared, confused and anxious. The loss of her owner and environment caused her to become depressed and stop eating and drinking. She began loosing weight quickly and her health began deteriorating.
Brookie and her brother Puffington were adopted in May. We had hoped that being back in a home environment would help her eat better and that her health would improve. Unfortunately, she continued to decline and became jaundice. Due to her declining health, she was returned to our rescue.
We brought her to the animal hospital on May 29th, where they diagnosed her with Hepatic Lipidosis. She began immediate treatment for dehydration and she was prescribed an apatite stimulator, an anti-nausea medication and pain medication. The doctor has ordered a echocardiogram on her heart to check for heart disease, which is currently being done.
Unfortunately, our shelter's veterinary fund is completely empty due to recent emergencies with other cats in our care. Brookie needs to have a feeding tube placed and needs further medical tests, but we are unable to do them without the funds. Brookie's medical care so far has cost $700 and the additional necessary medical tests will cost $800 or more.
Brookie is an amazingly sweet cat that deserves and needs this medical care. Unfortunately, if we are not able to obtain the necessary funds, she will likely continue to decline and have to be euthanized. Any amount you can give will get us closer to the goal of helping sweet Brookie. She has had a rough couple of months, losing her owner, her loving and comfortable home and now her health.
