Hello, friends, families, and fellow supporters of Summit NJ Middle School LCJSMS 8th graders! The LCJSMS PTO is thrilled to announce that the much-anticipated trip to Washington DC is back on the calendar, thanks to your unwavering support and determination.

This fundraiser is organized by the LCJSMS Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), a qualified 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting school programs and initiatives that are not fully funded by the school district's budget. We are committed to enhancing the educational experience for every student at LCJSMS. Donations are tax deductible and potentially eligible for corporate matching. We welcome any amount and are very grateful for your support.

The Journey So Far:

Our journey hasn't been without its challenges. Initially, the trip to our nation's capital was on the brink of cancellation due to budget constraints and other obstacles. However, our amazing community rallied together, signing a petition that garnered almost 800 signatures and writing heartfelt letters to the principal, board of education members, and the superintendent. Your voices were heard, and the trip is back on track!

Why This Trip Matters:

The trip to Washington DC is an essential part of our students' educational experience at LCJSMS. Going to Washington, DC on a class trip is a rite of passage that not only brings students closer together as a class, but it instills a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility. It provides them with the opportunity to explore our nation's history, government, and culture up close. It's a chance for our students to connect with their classroom learning in a real-world context, and it will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on their lives. This trip has been a tradition in the Summit community for several decades.

Our Goal:

To ensure that every 8th grader at LCJSMS can participate in this transformative experience, we need to raise at least $50,000. These funds will HELP COVER transportation, accommodation, meals, and all the educational activities that make this trip so enriching. LCJSMS administration is estimating the cost of the trip to be $400 per student. Just the busses alone are $36,000! As costs continue to rise our goal is to make this trip more affordable AND to keep the tradition going for years to come.
