¡¡IT'S OFFICIAL!!
The Valley Skate Club (VSC) is raising money to build a skatepark in the San Geronimo Valley, on the Lagunitas School upper campus and we are asking you, our community, to help bring it to life! 
VSC has won the support of LEAP, and the Lagunitas School Board,  Administration, Teachers and Parents, now we need YOU!  
All funds raised here will go directly to building the skatepark. 

VSC and the soon-to-be-realized skatepark are the result of tireless work and outreach by Dylan, Atticus and Ian, for their Change Project in Katherine's 8th Grade Social Studies class.
 
VSC's mission is:
To create a club that will facilitate the construction,
maintenance and expansion of a skatepark in the San Geronimo
Valley (SGV).
To foster the pursuit of building skills, finding grace
and staying safe through the experience of skateboarding.
The skatepark will be a place where generations of residents and
visitors can learn about creating and maintaining a safe space for
skateboarding.
The primary charge of the Club will be to:
-Include all ages, all races, all genders in the pursuit of
skateboarding
-Make a place that cultivates creation of and maintains a
safe space for skateboarding
-Promote and instill pride of stewardship for VSC
culture, facility and legacy through daily conduct, and
club events
-Coordinate various activities to educate members and
SGV community about VSC club values and
opportunities
-Present annual awards for personal achievements
and outstanding efforts to promote VSC values

It's hard to make the Civil Rights Movement and ongoing racial inequity in America relevant to 8th graders in Marin County.  They read books and articles, view films and listen to speakers but when they walk out classroom door, they find themselves safe at home in one of the  most insulated places in America.  

Teacher Katherine Sanford and the staff and parents of the Lagunitas Middle School hope to change that, at least a little.  We are seeking funding for a journey to the Deep South where our students will stand in the footsteps of Martin Luther King, John Lewis and Rosa Parks in key locations associated with the Civil Rights Movement to gain an understanding of the long and difficult history that defines our nation to this day. The voyage includes visits to the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the recently opened National Memorial for Peace and Justice (Lynching Memorial), Freedom Park, Birmingham and the 16th Street Baptist Church.  The journey concludes with a tour of the National Human and Civil Rights Museum in order to understand Civil Rights issues that we face today. 

We are seeking funding for program and travel expenses so that all (30+) students will be able to participate in this unforgettable trip that will change the way they view themselves and their country forever. 

We have already made a deposit for airfare, lodging and programs and will need to raise the total amount by January 2019.  We are estimating the total cost per student to be  $1,428.

Our students and staff truly appreciate your support and we believe that this experience will provide a pivotal experience in the lives of our San Geronimo youth in  a way that will make our world a better place.
