Let’s Be Kind is a non-profit that focuses on Creating Student Led Cultures of Unity Through Kindness on School Campuses

The vision of Let's Be Kind

We would love for this van to be a mobile icon where students know they have someone they can trust and talk with. The van would be used at our events and to visit schools throughout the year. Can you imagine a conversation on the sidewalk with a student after school as they are waiting for their ride home? We can. We know they need us there. It’s just another way to impact their lives. We would love to pull up to a school and greet students as they walk in or come out, pass out some balloons, hand them some encouraging notes and confetti, and swing by with an afternoon pizza snack. For us, it’s the constant showing up for students. We want them to see the van and be reminded that they belong and that together we are working for unity on our school campuses.

Help Us Bring a Kindness Van to SoCal Schools

Help us make our dream of having a ‘Let’s Be Kind’ van in the SoCal community a reality. For the past five years, we have built trust and relationships with schools in SoCal. Over 20,000 students are part of our Let’s Be Kind movement. We have been dreaming of this kindness van for years, and now you can help us make it a reality. Students need to be shown kindness more than ever. They need to understand how to be kind to themselves and others. We can walk with them best by showing up on their school campus.

Why Kids & Schools Need Kindness

One of the loneliest places on a school campus is the playground, lunchtime and before and after school. Without knowing other kids care, it is really easy to feel alone without anyone to talk to. By wearing a Let’s Be Kind t-shirt, you can start spreading kindness through your actions and let other kids know they always have someone to talk to. We have seen a massive shift in students feeling like they belong when they experience a Let’s Be Kind Day and wear their LBK T-shirt. Their school should be a place where they are able to grow, learn, feel safe and have fun experiences with their peers. We are working to make it an environment where everyone belongs.

History of Let's Be Kind

In 2018 Rebekah Robeck, an 8th grader and Founder at Costa Mesa Middle School, started Let’s Be Kind Day by gifting her student body the first Let’s Be Kind Tees.

“At the start of my 8th-grade year, I moved from living abroad in El Salvador with my family back to California. Attending middle school here was different. The culture seemed to be focused on putting each other down. I was told my hair looked weird and people would make fun of how I spoke Spanish, so I decided I wanted to do something about how people treated me and each other. I came up with a kindness event called Let’s Be Kind Day; this is where I passed out t-shirts to the entire student body of my school that said Let’s Be Kind on them. I am proud of what it has done because, in six years, we have reached over 30 schools and given t-shirts to more than 20,000 students. The t-shirt and this one act of kindness has changed schools, students and families. I hope to change school campuses' culture to create unity through spreading kindness!”
