Let's Play America Ltd

The Takoma Torch might like to poke fun at Takoma Park, but we love our community and are proud of it. That's why we were upset to learn that a fantastic local nonprofit, Let's Play America, recently fell victim to a predatory financial scam that resulted in the loss of nearly $16,000. We have no doubt that our followers will want to join us in helping our friends and neighbors by raising the funds needed to restore Let's Play America's losses. Please give what you can and share this campaign with others!

For those who are unfamiliar with Let's Play America, it was founded by Takoma Parker Pat Rumbaugh. They hold play events for people of all abilities, ages and backgrounds.  They support play days, street closures for play and events like National Night Out so that children and adults can experience safe and fun activities like double dutch, hula hooping and making mud pies. Play helps people improve their health through physical activity, engage with others, and--most of all--laugh and have fun.

We need to restore the missing funds so that Let's Play American can continue these wonderful activities. Targeted funds for equipment, performers and staff have mostly been depleted. 

Volunteer adults and teens have given over 20,000 hours since 2009 and over 1,000 teens have received community service for helping people play. As Pat says, “Everyone deserves to play.”
